Simple Cold Weather Skincare Tips

COLD Weather is Here!

Fall and winter can wreak havoc on your skin! Due to a lack of moisture in the air, the cold can cause a number of skin issues such as eczema. Autumn came up with some tips that are simple and easy to help keep your skin looking gorgeous this season!

10 Cold Weather Skincare Tips

1. Pack in the Fruits & Veggies

Eating high amounts of fruits and vegetables provide lots of hydration, and keep your skin moisturized. They are also packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that keep your skin looking young and healthy.

2. Take Short Warm Showers

Hot steamy showers. We've all done it! They feel so amazing on an icy cold day, but they dry out your skin severely! Hot water pulls out the natural oils from your skin and can even result in itchy hives if taken too hot. Try to aim for showers that are 15 minutes or less. Use warm water rather than super hot. Pat your body dry with your towel instead of roughly rubbing.

3. Use Natural Soaps

Conventional soaps contain unnatural chemicals that dry out your skin and cause irritation. Natural soaps leave your skin feeling healthy, happy, and moisturized. Opt for soaps made with natural ingredients that don't contain artificial fragrances.

4. Moisturize!

Immediately after showering, apply moisturizer while your skin is still damp. This really locks in the moisture! The same goes for hand washing. After you wash, apply lotion!

5. Less Heat the Better

Increasing the heat when it turns chilly might feel good, but it actually makes the air drier. It can cause your skin to become itchy and chapped. Rather than cranking the thermostat to 80, just snuggle up with a nice warm blanket.

6. Try A Humidifier

Using a humidifier raises the humidity level in your home and makes the air not so dry during the colder months. Even your essential oil diffuser doubles as a humidifier! So run that baby non-stop! Your skin will thank you for it! If you don't want to run out and buy a humidifier, you can DIY. Put out a bowl of water next to your heating vent, and it will moisten the air as the heat blows out. You can make it look fancy by using a decorative bowl. Pets also love this!

7. Smother Those Feet

Your feet like to get extra dry and cracked when it's cold outside. Regular lotion might not cut it. Try a super thick and rich moisturizer cream to really get the job done! Cover with cozy thick socks to lock in the moisture.  You can find our ultra-moisturizing foot balm and other winter essentials below.

8. Wear Cotton

Synthetic materials like polyester are very itchy and irritating to the skin. They don't allow your skin to breathe and can make eczema flare-ups worse. The solution: opt for cotton clothing. Cotton is super soft, breathable, and feels great against the skin!

9. Dry Brush

Brushing your skin with a dry brush removes dead skin cells which reveals new skin and helps to even out dark spots. Having your skin exfoliated allows your moisturizer to sink in more easily. It also gives your skin a nice glow by increasing circulation.

10. Exercise

Exercise is naturally a great way to warm up! It increases oxygen, blood flow, and nutrient supply to the skin. This improves collagen production which keeps the skin smooth and plump. Sweating during exercise eliminates toxins, clears your pores, helps regulate oil production, and helps prevent skin problems.
