Got an Itchy Pet?

-August is Itchy Pet Awareness Month-

Itchiness can be a fairly common thing among pets. There can be a number of reasons why your pet is itchy, ranging from simple to more serious. When a pet scratches/licks the same area excessively, it increases the likelihood that they will develop a hotspot. A hotspot is an irritated itchy red spot that can be quite painful for your pet.

TOP REASONS DOGS ITCH:

-Fleas, Ticks, Mosquitoes

-Allergies (from food, topical skin products, or environment)

-Skin Infections

Topical Ways To Treat Itching & Hotspots:

-Colloidal Oatmeal Baths

-Lavender

-Aloe Vera (alcohol free)

-Apple Cider Vinegar (don't use on raw skin/open wounds)

-Coconut Oil

-Chamomile

-Anti Itch & Hotspot Spray for Dogs

Natural treatments work well to tame the itch and irritation, but it's best to find the root cause of the itching so you can stop it from reoccurring. Contact your veterinarian if your pet's itching doesn't go away.
